LEGO and K'NEX
Students in grades K - 6 meet in the gym once a month to work on various LEGO STEM projects. Some of the classes work on simple machines, pulleys and levers. Other classes are given a problem and they need to design a solution with the LEGOS.
K'nex is a STEM based project for students to work on. The projects allow them to explore science concepts by building various projects. Some of the program activities would include: building amusement park rides students would learn about mass and speed, energy transfer, mechanical systems, prediction of patterns, and displacement. K'nex is appropriate for middle school classroom environments, specifically grades 5 through 9. Another project would be Intro to Simple Machine Gear Set students would learn about making work easier, mechanical advantage, gear ratios, spur gears, crown gears, and mechanical systems.
